Capt.
Rick got to go with his Good Friend Charles Finney in Charles'new 24 foot
boat, a 2350 SKA Sea Quest. We went past the cca almost to the R7 Navy
tower and made a few passes over some live bottom. Kept quite a few Vermillion
Snappers, 1 nice Red Snapper, a Trigger fish and a couple big black sea
bass. Charles boat perfomed flawless and his electronics are nice. The
300 Suzuki 4 stroke is plenty of power for this boat. Here is the only
picture I took of the fish.
12/14/2007
Capt.
Rick and Capt. Jeremy fished with a very good friend Capt. Jack Mcgowan
today. We went after striped bass with some live shrimp from ADAMS Bait
Shop. Capt. Jeremy caught the only Hybrid Striper today. Fished it for
about an hour then tried various drops in the Savannah and Back River.
Action
was slow then Capt. Jack noticed some bait moving and we anchored up and
caught and released several nice trout. Kept 7 for a Meal. Water clarity
was good at most places and water temp was 60°. Wind was mostly out
of the Southwest and was varible, but picked up in the afternoon. It was
a beautiful day to be on the water In Savannah, Ga in December. Air temp
was almost 80°, however look for a drastic temp change by Monday.
I caught all my trout on the INTICER popping Cork, Everyone else caught
using traditional 9 inch floats.
12/02/2007
Capt.
Rick fished with a friend Bill Bradley, we try to fish at least 1 time
a year. Wind was calm and the water temp was between 59° and 60°.
We didn't have a camera as this was a spur of the moment trip for me.
I did have a rod rigged up with a black inticer and Bill was using a cajun
thunder. Bill caught the first 4 trout. Once the tide came in more, I
started catching reds and trout on the grass line.
Bill
caught a nice red on a finger mullet. Final tally for the day was 12 Keeper
trout and 3 keeper redfish. We did release about 5 trout that were under
14 inches. I had a great time exploring new drops. We picked spots that
looked like they would hold fish and they did.
12/01/2007
Capt.
Rick scouted with a friend Tom Carfrey. Wind was out of the Northeast
at 15 - 20 knots and water temp was 59.7° and stained to clear as
the tide came in. We kept 7 trout and 1 redfish. Missed a striper that
broke Tom off on the strike. All fish caught on live shrimp From ADAMS
Baithouse. I fished with the New Inticer Popping Cork and Tom use the
Outcast Popper. Today was a great day to use them as we were able to pitch
right into the wind with good results and NO TANGLES. See if you can spot
the corks in the 2 pictures below ( by both fishes tails). They are both
black.Tom has the Redfish and I am holding an 18 inch trout.
11/30/2007
Capt.
Rick scouted and tried out the two new popping corks, the Inticer and
the Outcast. Below is a 17 inch redfish caught using live shimp under
the Outcast. Water temp was 60.7°and clear. All Redfish were released
today , but Kept 7 speckled seatrout for dinner. These fish hit live shrimp
under both corks. They work well and do not tangle at all.
11/28/2007
Capt.
Jeremy and Capt Jack Mcgowan took a scouting trip togeather and did quite
well. Everything was catch and release. Pictured below is Capt. Jeremy
with a slot redfish that was released caught on artificial.
11/24/2007
Capt.
Rick and Capt Jeremy had back to back charters today for Miss
Judy Charters. . Both were 4 hours
and 4 people charters . Capt Ricks was at 7am and he was greeted with
winds of 15 - 20 knots straight out of the northeast. Water temp was 59°
and the tides were astronomical. It was a 10 foot Plus high tide today.
We fished the outgoing with very little results. This was due to a change
in barometer, a cold front was pushing in along with the high tides and
strong winds.
Capt
Jeremy had much of the same conditions except his charter started at 12
pm and he had to fish the end of the outgoing and the first of the incoming.
Water was dirty and the wind howled. No Pictures of note were taken on
either trip. This was fishing in extreme conditions.
11/17/2007
Capt.
Rick scouted today for redfish as the previous charter wanted reds, but
all we caught were trout. I started fishing the last hour of the incoming
and 2 hours of the outgoing. I kept 7 trout and released 3 and released
3 Redfish between 25 and 29 inches. All fish caught on a light spinner
with live shrimp under a popping cork. Water temp was between 59°
and 60°. Water was very clear.
11/17/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 6 hour, 3 person charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. We fished the incoming
and caught and released 14 trout and 2 flounders. The bite was not hot
today. Water temp 59° and clear. Air temp was in the low 30's as I
had frost in the boat.
11/16/2007
Capt.
Jeremy had an 6 hour, 3 person charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 58°
and the water was clear. Fished the incoming/and some of the outgoing
tide. All fish were caught on traditional floats with live shrimp. Released
1 large redfish that was slightly over 27 inches.
They
kept 20 trout and 1 nice keeper redfish. Most fish were caught on the
last of the incoming and the first of the outgoing.
11/10/2007
Capt.
Jeremy had an 6 hour, 2 person charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 63°
and the water was clear. Fished the outgoing tide. Capt Jeremy had 2 anglers
and they kept 12 trout, 1 redfish and 1 nice black drum. Wind was 15 Knots
out of the North / North West. All fish were caught on live shrimp under
the traditional floats and some on gulp shrimp on a popping cork.
11/08/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 6 hour, 4 person charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. The trip today started
2 hours after high tide. Water temp was 63 degrees and clear, but got
stained near low tide.
All fish were caught on live shrimp under popping corks and traditional
floats. We fished the tide out and the 1st hour or so of the incoming.
Remember if you are
fishing in South Carolina waters, Seatrout and Flounder have to be a minimum
of 14 inches. The total bag limit per angler is 10 Trout per person and
20 flounder per person. On the flounder your boat cannot exceed 40 total.
Also
the slot size for redfish is 15 - 23 inches and the bag limit is 3 per
angler. These size limits are published in the Fishing regulations for
South carolina dated July 1st 2007 - Aug 14th, 2008.
We
kept 21 or 23 trout and 1 redfish and 1 flounder.
11/04/2007
Capt.
Rick and Capt Jeremy Scouted during the incoming tide today.
Water Temp was 63° and the water was stained , but cleared
up with the incoming flow. Capt. Rick caught 4 trout and Capt. Jeremy
caught the rest.
With
the wind out of the west at about 15 knots, we used our Baitcasters with
the 9 inch floats. Capt Jeremy also used a popping cork outfit as well.
All fish were caught on live shrimp except the last 5 trout were caught
on Gulp Shrimp (white) under the 9 inch float.
Final
total of kept fish were 13 Speckled Seatrout, 1 Red Drum, 2 flounder and
a very nice Black Drum. A Great day on the water with Capt. Jeremy demonstrating
how to fish 2 rods successfully .
11/03/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 4 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 63°
and the water was stained to dirty. Fished the last hour of the outgoing
and the first 2 of the incoming. We caught an inshore slam, which included
an oversized redfish and a 20 inch flounder. The speckled seatrout were
keeper sized, but were released unharmed. Also got broken off by a large
striper as well.
The wind was a steady 15 knots out of the West, North-West, which was
directly opposite of the incoming tide. Getting a current drift was not
possible as the wind overpowered the first 2 hours of the incoming.
All
fish caught today and yesterday were taken on Popping corks and live shrimp.
Also both the flounder and Redfish were taken in less than 2 feet of water.
The flounder created a mud trail as he honed in on the shrimp.
11/02/2007
Capt.
Jeremy had an 4 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 64°
and the water was stained. Tide was incoming and the guys caught and released
11 speckled seatrout and 3 overslot redfish. Unfortunatly Capt. Jeremy
left the Camera at home so no pictures of the large redfish.
10/27/2007
Capt.
Jeremy had an 6 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 73°
and the water was dirty. Like the day before, Capt. Jeremys trip experienced
the same extreme tidal conditions. When these tides are on the extreme
sides, this also affects the current speed and makes for finding clear
water a challenge.
His
group did manage to keep 4 seatrout, 2 flounders and 2 redfish. They caught
and released some bluefish as well as some short redfish. As it has been
said many times, "anyone can catch fish when they are biting , but
it takes a good guide to find and catch fish under extreme conditions."
This weekend has been extreme. Besides dealing with all the above and
below comments, live shrimp can be found but they are HUGE.
10/26/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 4 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 74°
and the water was dirty. We fished the last 2 hours of the incoming and
the 1st 2 hours of the outgoing. Due to the Astronomical tides, we did
poorly. Water was up anywhere from a 9.5 to 10 foot high tide. With these
exceptional tides we had a good bit of rain and wind. The bottom line
was we only caught 3 nice reds. Because of thevery high tides, the water
remained over the tops of most marsh areas that we fished. I did manage
a decent bonnet head shark, but that was not the targeted species. The
barometer was constantly changing during this time. Air temp fell from
an almost record hight of mid 80's on thursday to low 70's. It appears
fall has arrived. Looking at the picture below, at the same location all
the marsh grass was underwater and up to the bottoms of the bushes.
10/22/2007
Capt.
Jeremy had an 5 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 77°
and the water was clear. All Fish were caught on live shrimp. Today was
a catch and release day. All Fish caught today were redfish and all were
either in the slot or over. Had several breakoffs due to the size of these
incredible fish. Getting Bait shrimp has not improved much over the last
2 days. Plan your trips to the bait shops accordingly or cast net for
your own. Below
is one of the Redfish (aka Spot tail Bass) that was over the slot limit,
but boated by this happy angler. All reels are spooled with 30 lb power
pro and either 20 or 25 lb flourocarbon leader. It just takes a nick in
the leader for a strong fish to pop it. Capt. Jeremy suggusts that you
check your leader after each catch as to avoid these disappointing but
often avoidable breakoffs.
10/20/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 6 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 78°
and the water was stained at first but cleared up with the incoming tide.
Most fish were caught the last 3 hours of the charter. Most fish were
caught on live shrimp and mud minnows under Popping Corks. I am also using
a 1/0 kahle hook. Anything bigger is overkill. Final tally of kept fish
was 14 Speckled Sea Trout, 5 Redfish or spot tail bass and 4 nice Black
Drum. All these fish were caught in 3 - 4 feet of water, up against the
grass.
A
quick word about the bait situation . If you are looking for live shrimp,
call ADAMS before you go, chances are he is OUT. Also Joeys Bait house
will go out for Live shrimp next Wednesday or Thursday, until then call
to see what he has. As of this afternoon he was out. Bandys has had consistant
Shrimp on a daily basis. If you are considering booking a Charter, please
call (912) 897-4921 a couple days in advance
so I can plan for the bait.
10/13/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 6 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 74°
and the water was clear . All fish today were caught on live shrimp and
gulp shrimp rigged under a popping cork. All the trout were caught under
popping corks, but the redfish were caught with a traditional float. We
fished the last 3 hours of the incoming and the first 3 hours of the outgoing
with basically nonstop action. All trout landed were legal sized except
2 or 3. Final tally was 18 keeper Trout and 3 keeper redfish. We also
released a legal sized bonnethead shark as well. The Wind has layed down
somewhat, but was still blowing out of the North East.
Capt.
Jeremy told me where he caught the tripletail, and we had a huge one blow
up on the popping cork, not the bait. Left the group speechless as this
was a huge fish. Below is a picture of the group and their fish. I got
to hand it to Capt. Jeremy on putting his people on the tripletails. They
are exciting to see and I am sure they are a blast to catch. See report
of Oct. 12, 2007 - Just below this report.
10/12/2007
Capt.
Jeremy had an excellent 4 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was around
76° and the water was stained . All fish were caught on traditional
float rigs with live shrimp. They kept 2 triple tails, one that was 8.5
lbs and one 6 lbs. They also kept 2 bonnet head sharks, 5 trout, 1 redfish
and 1 bluefish. The DNR was at Miss Judys Dock and weighed the triple
tail. They had a steady day of catching. Below is Capt. Jeremy and his
charter group.
10/09/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 8 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 78°
and the water was clear during most of the outgoing, however the fog was
very dense and we lost some of the high outgoing on route from Miss Judys
Dock to the first drop.
The
trout bite was very good for the first couple hours of the outgoing, but
the bite slacked off considerably. Tried for some redfish at a drop that
has produced some quality reds all week, but only caught a couple of Black
drum. Also caught a bonnet head shark at the first trout drop. We released
several ladyfish as well. We caught and released some very small trout
and small whiting as well.
The
wind conditions improved but the barometer was dropping througout the
day. All in a a very nice outing. The Boat is out of the water for some
scheduled maintenance and will be going again by the weekend.
10/07/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 8 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was 77°
and the water was clear during most of the outgoing, then very muddy and
windy during the first couple of hours of incoming tide. The fish were
not biting quite as good as yesterday but the group did manage to catch
a variety of fish.
Started
by catching a couple of nice trout then a good sized black drum. We moved
alot and finally got into some redfish. Just before the end of the outgoing
, one of the guys missed a huge flounder but then caught a smaller one.
We tried a few drops out in Wassaw sound but they were unable to boat
anything due to the wind that was at least 15 knots out of the North,
North East. The end of September and all of October has just been nothing
short of Windy. Conditions on some of the last few trips have been marginal
at best.
10/06/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 4 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was around
76° and the water was clear. The wind is still a factor but his group
managed to keep 4 nice Redfish and 8 quality trout. All were caught on
Popping corks and live and dead shrimp.
10/05/2007
Capt.
Jeremy had an 4 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was around
76° and the water was muddy. This was another group charter from the
Westin. They caught and released 9 trout to 18 inches. Wind is still blowing
hard. Capt. Jeremy reported losing a Big Bull Red estimated around 40"
by getting wrapped up in the anchor rope. Capt Jeremy reported that the
fish had a lot of fight left, but the angler was tired from fighting him
with light inshore gear.
10/02/2007
Capt.
Rick had an 4 hour charter today for Miss
Judy Charters. Water Temp was around
76° and the water was muddy. This was part of a group charter from
the Westin, so we fished in the Back River and some in the Front river.
This was a catch and release trip. We released 9 spotted seatrout from
14 to 16 inches. We also caught and released 5 blue fish. All fish were
caught on live shrimp and Gulp Molting shrimp under popping corks. Not
bad considering the wind was straight out of the North East at a steady
25 Knots with gusts. Pictures to follow later. Notice the container ship
pushed and pulled a substantial amount of Water.
